The Product Development Engineering Aide contributes to the development of new products and systems by supporting engineers in the design, prototyping, system testing, characterization, validation and documentation of new products and systems. The Product Development Engineering Aide is also responsible for managing and maintaining the lab, equipment and component inventory as well as BOMs (Bill of Material) for PCBs.
Job Responsibility:
Working closely with Product Development Engineers on projects involving Vicor Power Components
Performing bench testing and characterization of new products and systems for datasheets, application notes, and model correlation/validation
Generating test procedures and complete reports documenting the results of experiments, and testing performed on the bench
Rapid prototyping, troubleshooting and testing of new circuits and components which work with Vicor power components at a system level
Building complex thermal-mechanical assemblies for air cooled and liquid cooled systems
Soldering and rework of components, ICs and mechanical assemblies to aid in testing, or repairing/replacing damaged components
Maintaining laboratory and equipment, keeping records of calibrations, researching and testing new equipment, assembling equipment into test racks and managing the stock of components in the lab
Aiding in the generation of new schematics and PCB designs, creating and maintaining BOMs (Bill of Material) and working closely with either contract manufacturers or operations to assemble PCBAs
Requirements:
Associates degree or 5+ years experience as technician, technical aide, or engineering aide
Familiarity with lab equipment used in the characterization and design of power supplies and systems (oscilloscopes, DMMs, Network Analyzers, EMI analyzers, loads, sources, etc.)
Proficiency soldering and reworking small surface mount components with good accuracy and cleanliness
Ability to methodically approach tasks and projects, manage time, and document results and procedures with minimal supervision
Familiarity with office tools (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.)
Nice to have:
IPC J-STD-001 soldering certification
CAD (especially Altium)
Experience working with high voltage DC/DC or AC/DC power supplies/loads and power systems
Troubleshooting skills with basic power systems
Experience designing or assembling thermal-mechanical systems including liquid cooling
