Job Description

To prepare, originate and present technical information in such a way as to allow others to be informed as to background, risk, safety, justification, change or step-by-step engineering sequence to/of: Operation, Plant, Procedure. Based on research, analysis and evaluation of technical / engineering theory, data and information.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepare, originate and present technical information to inform others as to background, risk, safety, justification, change or step-by-step engineering sequence
  • Document origination and retention including Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Inspection & Test Plans, Lift Plans, System Information Sheets, Maintenance Instructions, Change control documentation
  • Proof-reading and commenting on Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Site Acceptance Test (SAT), Requirements Documents (VVRM, MDAL)
  • Plan the order and sequence of information, refining illustrations and following recognised standards
  • Proof own work and copy proof/edit work of colleagues
  • Prepare, originate and submit approved documentation under direction of Site Manager/Project Manager
  • Index and catalogue work
  • Liaise over engineering, scientific and technical requirements
  • Support project team members, subcontractors, suppliers and clients
  • Support programme development
  • Report delay, changes of scope and risk to Project Manager
  • Liaise with client and colleagues
  • Originate technical documents/reports for client
  • Contribute to technical and project meetings
  • Respond to technical enquiries
  • Provide technical input to tenders/bids
  • Contribute to business development
  • Recognise impact of own actions
  • Understand importance of schedule adherence and accurately report progress

Requirements

  • Educated to ONC or equivalent level in engineering
  • communication or appropriate subjects
  • Proven ability to create, develop and originate working documentation for applications such instruction, justification, process or procedural change and / or information
  • Experience of similar role within a radiological processing / waste handling environment
  • Copy editing work of others
  • Proven ability to network and liaise with internal and external team members and client representative to ensure terminology and documentation is fit for purpose
  • Competent user of MS Office
  • Able to organise and prioritise own work
  • Maintenance of database and physical records and files

Nice to have

  • HND / Degree in engineering
  • Membership of appropriate technical / professional body
  • Familiar with strict cataloguing, recording and indexing systems
  • Experience of delivery to tight time and accuracy standards across several projects concurrently
  • Proven ability to plan, organise and co-ordinate own work in time accurately and methodically
  • Experience of AWE 804 system
  • Compliance to legal and industry standards

  • Experience and application of The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)

  • Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate technical work as required, in a number of major work areas, in support of the commissioning, operation and maintenance of the facilities.
  • Receive assignments from Supervisor as well as identify potential problems and opportunities in assigned areas and/or systems in the facility.
  • Prepare reports to provide information and data in answer to external requests or for historical purposes. Initiate studies or investigations where opportunities for improvement are apparent. In some instances, these opportunities may be identified by the Supervisor.
  • Review proposals received from internal or external sources related to assigned area. Discuss proposal with originator as necessary to suggest changes or revisions as appropriate. Recommend disposition of proposal to Supervisor in writing for review and forwarding to approval authority.
  • Prepare or help prepare specifications, for purchasing requisitions for material, services and equipment. Follow up with procurement and provide necessary technical services during field installation.
  • Provide support for ensuring compliance with all site license conditions relating to CSA N293, CSA N393 and associated NFPA codes and standards related to the fire protection program.
  • Provide expert advice, guidance, direction and assistance to management and fire protection staff, regarding fire hazard assessment, fire response equipment lifecycle and fire response personal protective equipment and kit. Provide interpretations of station compliance requirements with licensing codes and standards (CSA N293, CSA N393, NFPA, NFCC), Provincial and Federal laws, acts, statues, and OPG Fire Protection procedures.
  • Ensure all fire protection systems and equipment is operational and initiate appropriate compensatory measures to maintain compliance with regulations and station license conditions where deficiencies exist. Provide support in developing/ updating standards, procedure, Instruction, and guides to ensure CNSC regulations, and code and standard requirements are adhered to.
  • Assist the Section Manager of Fire Protection Programs with fire risk assessments including review of pertinent system impairments, Fire Safe Shutdown Analysis and Fire Hazard Assessment information, official local information and fire codes and standards to identify credible alternative and performance-based strategies for compliance with station license conditions. Develop response plans for postulated fire scenarios based on the plant safety report licensing basis.
  • Develop and maintain an ongoing review process to identify any increase in risk from equipment, training, staffing or procedural deficiencies and recommend the requirement to modify the site fire response protocols to compensate for changes in the site-specific fire risk.
