We are seeking a Senior Engineer (Engineer III) to support engineering design, standards development, and technical services for natural gas distribution and transmission systems across North Carolina. This role plays a key part in advancing critical utility infrastructure and requires strong technical expertise, deep familiarity with industry codes, and the ability to support complex engineering activities in a regulated utility environment.
Job Responsibility:
Support pipeline and facility engineering design, technical reviews, and engineering assessments
Assist with development, interpretation, and maintenance of engineering standards, procedures, and specifications
Provide technical expertise to operations, construction, and field teams
Support capital and maintenance projects across transmission, distribution, compression, and LNG systems
Ensure alignment with regulatory, safety, and engineering requirements
Contribute to continuous improvement, asset management reviews, and risk evaluation
Support specialty engineering areas such as corrosion, materials, welding, HDD, mechanical design, LNG, or compression depending on background
Requirements:
Around 10 years of engineering experience, ideally within the natural gas utility or broader energy sector
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Geotechnical, Chemical, or related ABET-accredited engineering discipline
Strong understanding of natural gas engineering standards, such as: 49 CFR Part 192, ASME and API codes
Experience with pipeline systems, transmission/distribution design, operations support, corrosion control, standards development, or similar
Ability to interpret engineering processes, codes, workflows, and technical documentation
Proficiency with engineering tools, data analysis, and MS Office applications
Valid driver’s license
Nice to have:
Direct experience supporting natural gas transmission or distribution systems, including pipeline and facility design packages
Exposure to LNG facilities, compression systems, or utility operations
Background in the oil & gas or energy industries, particularly with mechanical design or technical services
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe
