Job Description:

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking two (2) twelve-month contract Fish Culture Specialists. One position will be located at the Clark's Fork Fish Hatchery, and the other will support operations between the Ten Sleep Hatchery and the Wigwam Rearing Station. Under supervision, incumbents will perform a variety of fish culture and facility maintenance duties.

Job Responsibility:

  • Perform fish culture and facility maintenance duties
  • Assist with spawning operations
  • Clean tanks
  • Feed fish
  • Conduct sample counts and inventories
  • Calculate feed requirements
  • Stock fish
  • Assist other Department hatcheries as needed
  • Maintain equipment (pumps, lawn mowers, weed eaters, pressure washers)
  • Perform general upkeep of facility grounds and buildings
  • Participate in rotating weekend schedule to monitor fish culture operations seven days per week

Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License
  • Ability to operate various pieces of equipment (4WD vehicles, tractors, pumps, pressure washers, lawnmowers, weed eater, chainsaw)
  • Ability to lift occasionally
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions for prolonged periods
  • Ability to respond to facility needs day or night

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in fisheries, wildlife management, biology, zoology, ichthyology, or closely related field
  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of fish propagation and/or management
  • Knowledge of oral and written communications
  • Knowledge of computers and various computer software
  • Knowledge of maintenance of small engines and lawn equipment
