Job Description

Join Our Team as an Engineer at Water Works Engineers! As a Civil/Environmental Engineer at Water Works Engineers, you will help deliver infrastructure projects that directly improve the health and resilience of communities across Southern California. From treatment systems addressing emerging contaminants to complex hydraulic design, equipment selection, and site layout, your work will have a tangible impact on public water systems. Based in our Los Angeles office, you’ll be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team planning, designing, and supporting the construction of potable water and wastewater projects. In this early-career role, you’ll gain hands-on experience with real-world engineering—from technical calculations and construction documents to permitting and field visits. You’ll be surrounded by experienced engineers who are committed to your growth and development, allowing you the opportunity to build your foundation in a collaborative, mission-driven environment where your contributions truly matter.

Job Responsibility

  • Assist with the planning, design, and execution of civil and environmental engineering projects, with an emphasis on water infrastructure and site development
  • Support project teams by performing engineering calculations, developing design concepts, and drafting plans for grading, drainage, and utility layouts
  • Help prepare reports, specifications, and construction documents to support project development and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Participate in cost estimation and budgeting activities, contributing to the development of accurate project estimates
  • Review construction submittals and provide support during construction to help ensure compliance with design intent and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct field visits and site observations to assist with construction inspections, gather data, and verify conformance with design plans
  • Collaborate with internal design teams and other engineering disciplines to support the successful delivery of project objectives and deadlines
  • Assist in coordinating various project phases, including planning, permitting, design, and construction
  • Participate in training sessions, mentorship opportunities, and multidisciplinary collaboration to build technical and project management skills

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited engineering program
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain it within 6–12 months of hire is preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience in civil and environmental engineering, preferably with exposure to water infrastructure, site development, or related municipal projects
  • Proficiency in CADD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit) and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project) is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to hydraulic or conveyance system calculations and civil design tasks
  • Strong desire to learn and grow professionally in civil/environmental engineering
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team‑oriented environment
  • Willingness to perform both office and fieldwork as required, including site visits and construction observations

What we offer

  • Paid Time Off: Eight paid holidays annually, with paid time off (PTO) accrual based on role
  • 401K Retirement Plan: Company match of 100% on the first 6% of your salary, with immediate eligibility
  • Health Insurance: Fully covered for employee-only plans, with the company contributing significantly towards family coverage
  • Dental and Vision Insurance: Fully covered for employees, with affordable options for family coverage
  • Life and Disability Insurance: Provided at no cost
  • Additional Benefits: Health Care Flexible Spending Account, Adoption Assistance, Employee Assistance Program, and Commuter Benefits
  • Employees may be eligible for bonuses based on individual and company performance
