Job Description:

Are you an experienced solicitor or barrister with a passion for data protection and regulatory investigations? A leading UK regulatory body is seeking a specialist Enforcement Lawyer to join their multi-disciplinary team in Birmingham. In this pivotal position, you will act as a subject matter expert, providing high-quality legal advice on data management within the context of complex, high-profile regulatory investigations. You will support the organisation’s Information Asset Owner to ensure all enforcement activities comply with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act, and FOIA.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide practical legal analysis on data management and policy to support case lawyers and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Lead work streams to implement and update the division’s data management policies and strategies
  • Draft guidance on legislative changes and deliver training to the wider enforcement team
  • Collaborate with internal IT and legal experts, government departments, and other regulatory agencies
  • Instruct specialist counsel on high-complexity or high-risk legal questions

Requirements:

  • Fully qualified Solicitor or Barrister to practice in England and Wales (or Common Law jurisdiction with UK experience)
  • Around 6+ years of post-qualification experience, specifically advising on UK GDPR, DPA, and FOIA
  • Proven experience in completing data impact assessments and responding to SARs and FOIA requests
  • Experience working within a law enforcement, regulatory, or prosecuting authority is highly preferred
  • Strong analytical judgement, excellent IT skills, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
