Are you an experienced solicitor or barrister with a passion for data protection and regulatory investigations? A leading UK regulatory body is seeking a specialist Enforcement Lawyer to join their multi-disciplinary team in Birmingham. In this pivotal position, you will act as a subject matter expert, providing high-quality legal advice on data management within the context of complex, high-profile regulatory investigations. You will support the organisation’s Information Asset Owner to ensure all enforcement activities comply with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act, and FOIA.
Job Responsibility:
Provide practical legal analysis on data management and policy to support case lawyers and multi-disciplinary teams
Lead work streams to implement and update the division’s data management policies and strategies
Draft guidance on legislative changes and deliver training to the wider enforcement team
Collaborate with internal IT and legal experts, government departments, and other regulatory agencies
Instruct specialist counsel on high-complexity or high-risk legal questions
Requirements:
Fully qualified Solicitor or Barrister to practice in England and Wales (or Common Law jurisdiction with UK experience)
Around 6+ years of post-qualification experience, specifically advising on UK GDPR, DPA, and FOIA
Proven experience in completing data impact assessments and responding to SARs and FOIA requests
Experience working within a law enforcement, regulatory, or prosecuting authority is highly preferred
Strong analytical judgement, excellent IT skills, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
