An established national construction firm is seeking an experienced Construction Energy Marshal to support mission-critical data center projects. This role serves as the on-site authority responsible for planning, coordinating, controlling, and documenting all energy isolation, energization, and safety-critical activities on complex construction sites. The Construction Energy Marshal plays a critical role in protecting personnel, equipment, and operational continuity by enforcing strict energy control procedures aligned with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and data center best practices.
Job Responsibility:
Develop, implement, and enforce a Project Energy Control Plan tailored to mission-critical infrastructure
Manage Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for medium-voltage systems, switchgear and switchboards, UPS systems and battery strings, generators and paralleling gear, and mechanical plants, CRAC/CRAH systems, and controls infrastructure
Verify zero-energy state prior to work execution
Maintain detailed switching logs, isolation tracking, and energization matrices
Lead and coordinate energization sequencing for utility tie-ins, generator startup, UPS transitions and static bypass operations, A/B system commissioning, mechanical equipment energization, and live campus expansions
Coordinate closely with utility providers, owner operations teams, and commissioning authorities
Ensure no unplanned impact to live operational environments
Review and approve Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and Energized Work Permits
Validate arc flash studies, labeling, and PPE requirements prior to energization
Manage transition from temporary to permanent power
Oversee black-building tests and Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
Validate system redundancy (N, N+1, 2N architectures)
Conduct daily field audits of LOTO compliance
Enforce NFPA 70E requirements and maintain stop-work authority for unsafe conditions
Lead energy hazard pre-task planning meetings
Monitor battery safety, fuel systems, and stored-energy risks
Maintain redlined one-line diagrams and real-time energized system status
Issue regular energy status reports to project leadership and stakeholders
Support documentation of energy-related incidents and near misses
