Job Description

The Energy Contracts Manager is responsible for managing power purchase agreements (PPAs) including settlement of energy, capacity, RECs and other products across a portfolio of renewable generation assets. This role serves as a subject matter expert on contractual obligations, settlement structures and drivers of revenue. The incumbent acts as a key liaison between departments including Accounting, Operations and Maintenance, Legal as well as builds relationships with external stakeholders.

Job Responsibility

  • PPA Management & Contractual Compliance: Review PPAs to interpret and capture all contractual commitments
  • Develop robust tracking and reporting process for monthly, annual, and adhoc obligations, including guarantees, production metrics, revenue, insurance, data feeds and financial security requirements
  • Lead Operating Committee reporting and discussions with offtakers
  • Participate in analysis and resolution of contractual disputes
  • Subject Matter Expert on the evaluation and interpretation of PPA language during negotiations of new contracts, mergers and acquisitions, asset enhancement projects, etc.
  • Settlements & Revenue Assurance: Manage with minimal guidance and perform the settlements process for power, RECs, and related trueups
  • Verify accuracy of settlement data related to metered generation, curtailment events, invoices, and trueups
  • Manage REC inventory, transfers, reconciliations, and compliance deliverables
  • Develops and maintains process documentation and flow maps
  • Portfolio-wide leadership of processes to ensure adherence to PPA timelines and timely provision of guidance to resolve issues
  • Reports on portfolio-wide monthly revenue results and budget variances ensuring quality control
  • Cross Functional Collaboration & Process improvement: Coordinate across internal teams and external counterparties to build processes, execute and fulfill contractual requirements
  • Lead process automation and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or related field
  • Master’s preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in energy, commodities, or power contract management
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex contractual language
  • Excellent project management, communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills required
  • Working understanding of the renewable industry, energy commodity markets and regional power system operators (e.g. PJM, ERCOT, NYISO, SPP, MISO, ISO-NE, AESO, etc.)
  • Familiarity in identifying and tracking concepts of risks and exposure from PPAs
  • Will require full knowledge of functional responsibilities of all groups/individuals within the organization
