The IEA is recruiting an environment and energy analyst to contribute to its work on methane emissions. The candidate will help with ongoing improvements to the estimation of methane emissions around the world, track policy and regulatory developments on methane in countries around the world, formulate clear and actionable advice for policy makers and regulators, and contribute to outreach and capacity building activities with government and industry stakeholders looking to implement regulations, policies and best practices on the measurement, monitoring and verification of emissions and methane emissions abatement.
Job Responsibility:
Participate in the collection and analysis of data for the annual Global Methane Tracker
Assessing and summarising the latest measurement data from the scientific literature, company reports and other organisations
Contributing to the improvement of estimates of emissions and abatement costs
Drafting relevant sections and related special pieces of analysis
Conduct policy and regulatory analysis related to methane emissions
Tracking and analysing policy and regulatory developments in key countries
Formulating clear and actionable policy and regulatory recommendations
Support the broader activities of the IEA through analytical, written and verbal contributions on all aspects of methane emissions
Participate in the preparation of other analytical pieces undertaken within OCEE
Collaborate with other Divisions in the Agency and other national and international organisations, the energy industry and research bodies in the analysis of methane emissions
Participate in preparations for meetings of IEA committees, working parties and other groups as required
Build and maintain contacts with relevant governmental bodies, international organisations, representatives of industry, and other institutions
Organise capacity building activities for relevant stakeholders, including creating materials, organising trainings and presenting IEA outputs on methane
Requirements:
An advanced university degree(s) in relevant disciplines, such as engineering, mathematics or economics
At least three to seven years' experience in applied economic and policy analysis, preferably within an energy context
Excellent understanding of energy sector dynamics
Excellent quantitative background and experience in the construction and use of large scale energy models and datasets
Proven analytical abilities and excellent writing skills as demonstrated in past work products (analytical reports, quantitative analysis, operative models, and/or published papers)
Excellent command of Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, Access and Power Query
Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other, with a commitment to reach a good working level
