Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Employment Specialist to join our expanding team. This role may be tasked with providing transitional support to employers and job seekers and with educating community organizations about how and why a diverse staff is important for success.

Job Responsibility

  • Provides pre-employment counselling, job coaching, education and advocacy support to adults with a disability
  • Provides transitional support, marketing to employers, and education and support to community organizations

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in area directly related to supporting people with developmental disabilities such as Social Services, Human Services, or Education
  • 1-2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a vocational setting
  • Experience in adaptive communication techniques information technology
  • Previous experience working with adults with barriers to employment
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully implement instructional and other support programs for adults
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • Class 5 Driver’s License & vehicle required
  • Business Use Insurance
  • Must be willing to travel throughout the Lower Mainland (Burnaby, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, North & West Vancouver, Vancouver, Richmond)
  • Valid First Aid/CPR
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification
  • Demonstrated competency in English
  • Computer proficiency
  • Eligible to work in Canada

  • Conducting intake assessments, skill development activities, employment preparation, job search, job coaching, assistance to clients when engaging potential employers, identifying and mitigating barriers to employment, job maintenance, and advocacy support
  • Providing one-on-one support to individuals including follow-up career consulting appointments using case management principles such as Individualized Vocational Service Plans, creating a plan and tracking progress, adjusting goals/plans as needed
  • Mediating and collaborating with employers to address client needs and resolving challenges using creative solutions and natural supports
  • Demonstrating flexibility, creativity, and a solution-focused approach while effectively identifying and prioritizing tasks
  • Keeping up to date files on clients using Teams- this includes organizing and maintaining client and program files
