We are looking for an Employee Relations & Learning Development Specialist to support a mission-driven nonprofit serving vulnerable individuals and families in Tacoma, Washington. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for an HR specialist who is energized by building effective learning programs, strengthening employee support practices, and contributing to a collaborative organization focused on community impact. The person in this role will partner with leaders across departments to improve training, reinforce compliance, and help foster a respectful, accountable workplace culture.
Job Responsibility:
Design, refresh, and organize training materials and development resources for employees across multiple functions and service areas
Partner with program leaders to understand team workflows, identify operational challenges, and translate those insights into practical learning solutions
Measure the impact of training initiatives, review feedback and performance trends, and recommend improvements that increase engagement and effectiveness
Track workplace and compliance-related patterns, prepare reports, and help strengthen guidance that supports accountability and employee morale
Maintain and update HR policies, employee relations standards, and compliance documentation to align with organizational needs
Advise managers on employee relations matters, including coaching, performance concerns, workplace conflicts, and corrective action processes
Conduct or support workplace investigations and assist with conflict resolution and mediation efforts in a fair and consistent manner
Provide broader HR support in areas such as onboarding, leave administration, recruiting coordination, reporting, and audit preparation
Requirements:
2+ years of experience in human resources, learning and development, employee relations, or a closely related HR specialty
Demonstrated ability to create training content, improve development programs, and support learning processes across different departments
Experience handling employee relations matters, including investigations, performance management, and conflict resolution
Working knowledge of HR policies, compliance practices, onboarding, and general HR administration
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS platforms used for employee data, reporting, and process support
Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively with managers and employees at all levels
High level of empathy, patience, and professionalism, particularly when supporting sensitive workplace situations
Interest in contributing to a nonprofit environment and supporting an organization focused on meaningful community service
