Product Engineering Co-Op position working within the Electronic Variable Cam Timing (eVCT) product group at Drive Train Morse Systems BorgWarner. The Electric Motor (eMotor) Product Engineer Co-op will be working with a team through the product development process to release an eMotor to series production. Primary functions are experimentation testing, prototype builds, return part teardowns and reports, performance testing, process development, and data compilation with analysis. They will be required to utilize the scientific method to predict, recreate, and find failures. Through this process they will compile, organize, and present data with proposed solutions to the team leaders. The role will be involved through the product development cycle starting from the Beta phase to bringing the product to series production maturity. The Co-op Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and eMotor team members. While the role is based in Auburn Hills, there may be trips to the manufacturing facility in Ithaca NY are expected for learning about the product, the manufacturing engineering teams, and manufacturing capabilities.
Job Responsibility:
Disassemble (teardown) test samples and provide reports with analysis
Assists in testing, development, and validation of new products
Works with product engineers to support prototype builds with documentation and data processing
Works with CAD designers, or individually, to develop tooling used for assembly, performance, and validation testing
Gathers benchmarking data (performance, design, manufacturing strategy) of competitors’ products and documents with reports
Assists test engineers in managing test plans, setting up durability tests and writing reports
Lead experimentation studies and provide final reports
Accountable for timely updates on tasks and experiments to team lead
Generate work orders for design change requests, lab work, and engineering analysis
Prepare presentations for test result technical reviews and updates
Requirements:
Current full-time enrollment in an accredited college, university, vocational/trade school
Engineering student (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)
GPA of 3.0 or better
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Microsoft office core competencies in outlook, word, excel, and power point
Self-starter mentality
Mechanically inclined hands-on approach
Punctual and willing to do what it takes to get the job done
Ability to report onsite at least three days to our Auburn Hills Campus
