We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Youth Development Mentor to join the team. This role focuses on supporting students with SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions, improve behaviour, and re-engage with education. The position includes both in-school support and outreach work, working with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, both within the school setting and out in the community. You will play a key role in building trusted relationships, acting as a positive role model, and supporting students’ personal development, engagement, and overall wellbeing.
Job Responsibility
Support students with SEMH needs in managing behaviour and emotional regulation
Build strong, positive relationships with young people
Deliver 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions
Support students both in the classroom and through outreach activities
Promote engagement in education and personal development
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies
Provide consistent, calm, and structured support
Requirements
Experience working with young people, ideally within an SEMH, alternative provision, or youth work setting
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Ability to build rapport and trust with disengaged or challenging students
Resilience, patience, and a calm, empathetic approach
A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
