The Emissions Laboratory Technician I (ELT) conducts environmental tests on vehicles including tailpipe, evaporative emissions and diurnal temperature testing in a climatic chamber to ensure vehicle emissions, fuel economy and EV range are being tested in compliance with applicable government regulations. Furthermore, the Technician ensures accuracy and conclusiveness of the test results and data, both paper and digital media, reports all results to the Emission Laboratory Supervisor for further evaluation and feedback. The requirements also include ensuring the accuracy of calibration work on instrumentation of emission and environmental test equipment. The ELT must also operate and control test cell climate systems. The role reports directly to the Sr. Manager Emissions Laboratory, and requires team-oriented skills, extensive collaboration with respective leadership and colleagues while working under moderate supervision.
Job Responsibility:
Performs and executes emission test on chassis dynamometer for all Fuel economy, certification vehicles as well as support development departments in operating / driving prototype vehicles
Performs and executes Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) multi-cycle procedure as well as charge depleting / sustaining test on chassis dynamometer
Performs Evaporative test (Non-tailpipe) emissions in VT SHED to fulfill regulatory requirements
Starts and operates vehicle according to test program, compares performance with specifications and records results
Adjusts dynamometer settings to vehicle specifications and connects instrument sensors to exhaust system
Calculation of test results on test cell computer
Calibrates and maintains test equipment and recording devices including monthly analyzer curves, converter checks, and weekly CFO propane check
Operate and control climatic and test cell host systems
Other test related duties
Test vehicle logistics including loading, unloading, securing vehicles on/off trucks
Inventory of calibration gases (Master and Local Reference Gases)
Vehicle check-in and shipping
Perform OBD data diagnostic read-outs with specialized equipment (Diagra, VAS)
Performs quality check on test data reports to ensure accuracy
Reports test results to Lab Supervisor for further evaluation and quality check
Performs initial quality checks on test results
Maintain and promote awareness of compliance requirements and environmental standards
Requirements:
2 – 4 years relevant work experience or equivalent in the field of automotive testing
High School Diploma / GED Equivalent (required)
Associate Degree in Automotive Technology or equivalent related field (desired)
