The Waymo Safety team works to promote and help to continuously improve the safety of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our experts develop safety goals and strategies, and conduct safety engineering analyses to ensure safety is being considered throughout the design and development of our vehicles. The team develops and promotes safety strategies and policies for autonomous vehicles for its work with regulatory authorities, lawmakers, law enforcement and public and non-profit organizations.
Job Responsibility:
Establish and maintain primary contact with Emergency Services at management and executive levels in current and future areas of operation
Design, present, and certify additional Emergency Services Ambassadors (ESAs) and Emergency Services stakeholders on Waymo's mission, technology, and industry concerns
Provide oversight, review, and guidance to Emergency Services training teams and act as the final source of truth for Emergency Services questions
Represent Waymo at Emergency Services events, panels, and industry events
Act as Waymo’s on the ground representative during emergency events and coordinate with local emergency services and local authorities
Requirements:
10+ years of service in Japan’s emergency services (Police, Fire & Rescue, or Ambulance Service)
Deep understanding of Japan’s legal frameworks, emergency protocols, and community engagement strategies
Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences
A strong understanding of the specific nuances and sensitivities of Emergency Services communities in Japan
The ability to establish and maintain a professional presence at executive and command staff levels
A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with legal and other internal teams
Nice to have:
At least 7 years in a leadership or management position within one of Japan’s principal emergency services
Experience establishing organizational presence in new geographic locations
Familiarity with autonomous vehicle technology and its implications for emergency services
A track record of policy development related to emergency management
Experience in a role requiring significant public speaking and stakeholder engagement
Experience working in rapidly scaling and complex operational environments
