The role of the coordinator is to facilitate the planning, training, exercising, operational readiness, financial sustainability, evaluation, and ongoing development of the hospital’s Emergency Response Plans, as well as participate in, or support the response activities according to those plans. The coordinator works in collaboration with RHCC, the Cook County Department of Public Health Hospital Preparedness Program, and other community agencies and/or coalitions involved in the emergency response system.
Job Responsibility:
Facilitate the planning, training, exercising, operational readiness, financial sustainability, evaluation, and ongoing development of the hospital’s Emergency Response Plans
Participate in, or support the response activities according to those plans
Work in collaboration with RHCC, the Cook County Department of Public Health Hospital Preparedness Program, and other community agencies and/or coalitions involved in the emergency response system
Plan, direct, coordinate and manage the operational activities of the Emergency Preparedness Program
Develops the Emergency Preparedness Committee including support to other Advocate Health Care Emergency Preparedness Committee Planning
Develop, plan, monitor, and evaluate the HICS (hospital incident command system) and NIMS (National Incident Management System)
Work in collaboration with other disciplines to provide oversight for local/regional exercises that will evaluate effectiveness of the ALGH emergency preparedness program to include (but not limited too)
Work collaboratively with local and regional hospitals and governmental agencies to develop, plan, monitor, and evaluate regional disaster preparedness planning such the Illinois Mutual Aid Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and other plans
Participates on committees as requested, including, but not limited to: Emergency Management Committee, Environment of Care, Infection Prevention, Nursing Leadership
Plan, direct, coordinate and manage hazmat activities and education
Participates in the planning, development and implementation for educational programs for Emergency Preparedness
Acts as liaison during emergency event and documents according to regulatory requirements
Monitor compliance with OSHA, Accrediting Organization and all other regulatory agencies for hazmat training
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management or equivalent, or licensed with the State in which the TM practices as Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P)
3-4 years of experience in Emergency Department, field paramedic experience, or emergency preparedness required
Leadership experience preferred
National Healthcare Disaster Board Certification (NHDP-BC) preferred
FEMA IS Courses 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 within 12 months of hire
Basic computer skills, self-starter, good organizational skills with an attention to details and follow through, report writing capability
Demonstrates ability to work unsupervised
Must be able to travel to for classes and meetings
Must be flexible to attend day, afternoon, and evening meetings/ classes
May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases
Must be able to prepare and lecture on assigned topics
Job may require emergency call-in situations available to work varied work schedule 24/7/365 in period of public health emergency
Acts as secondary operator of the Regional Hospital Coordination Center
Valid driver’s license
Ability to lift >50 lbs. of equipment
