Job Description

Emergency Care Tech position in the Emergency Department, providing patient care and support to RN staff, with responsibilities in quality, customer satisfaction, innovation, organizational climate, productivity, people growth, and economics.

Job Responsibility

  • Provides quality patient care within the scope defined by the Nurse Practice act and Trinity Competency Program
  • Performs electrocardiograms
  • Draws blood specimens
  • Prepares unit, patient treatment area and stretcher
  • Demonstrates discretion
  • protects privacy of patient
  • Distributes nutrition service trays
  • Actively participates in the collection, development and reporting of data for CQI initiatives
  • Assists RN in provision of care
  • Assists with application of posterior molds
  • Observation and timely reporting of patient needs
  • Take and record vital signs, weight, intake and output
  • Responds to patient’s call light
  • Adheres to nursing policies, procedures and standards
  • Responds to emergency plans
  • Maintains unit cleanliness
  • Provides assistance to RN staff in triage, admission, transfer and discharge
  • Transport, transfer, lift and position patients
  • Provides postmortem care
  • Fits crutches and teaches crutch walking
  • Provide all customers with appropriate services
  • Maintains positive relationships
  • Serves as patient advocate
  • Resolves patient’s and customer’s concerns
  • Review Patient Satisfaction data

Requirements

  • Certified as CNA, EMT, paramedic, or ERT with 2-3 yrs. of hospital or pre-hospital patient care experience
  • acceptance at an accredited medical school or completion of 2-3 years of nursing school clinical rotations
  • completion of a certified medical assisting program
  • Customer Focus Skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • CNA, EMT, ERT, MA certification
  • Current CPR certification

Nice to have

Prior experience with various age groups is preferred

  • Makes rounds on patients and answer call lights immediately, using excellent customer service techniques
  • Obtains and documents: vital signs, orthostatic vital signs, urine dip testing, and blood glucose monitoring, reporting all changes to appropriate RN
  • When phlebotomy training is completed, demonstrates working knowledge and skills for phlebotomy, including the accurate labeling of specimens
  • Understands the First Net tracking board icons and their associated tasks are essential for efficient patient care/patient flow
  • Demonstrates the ability to print/maintain hardcopies of inpatient orders
