Electronics Technician (Glasgow, Scotland) - Our client is an innovative technology company operating within the space and satellite sector, developing advanced payload systems for a global customer base. They are seeking an Electronics Technician who is passionate about electronic systems and solving complex technical challenges. Full-Time, Permanent role working onsite their office in Glasgow. This is a great opportunity for an Electronics Technician who aspires to work for a Space Company. Previous Space sector experience is not required, but the ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with electronic systems and components, a working knowledge of embedded systems (including microcontrollers and IoT devices), and ideally experience in a cleanroom-rated environment. In this role, you will play a key part in the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic components and equipment that form the foundation of next-generation products. You will collaborate closely with engineers across electronics, systems, and mechanical disciplines in an agile, team-oriented environment where technical excellence, precision, and continuous improvement are highly valued.
Job Responsibility
Work closely with engineers, scientists, and fellow technicians to support a variety of projects and programmes
Provide technical assistance and support during development, integration, and testing activities
Assemble, test, and install wiring harnesses for electronic systems
Ensure all harnesses meet technical specifications and quality standards
Assemble mechanical components and structures for electronic systems
Ensure precise alignment and secure fastening of all mechanical parts
Produce printed circuit assemblies through hand soldering of electronic components, primarily SMT devices, using microscopes and specialist equipment
Verify the integrity and functionality of assembled electronic systems
Perform thorough cleaning of electronic and mechanical components and completed assemblies
Stake electronic components and bond mechanical assemblies to achieve high reliability
Ensure chemicals, adhesives, and epoxies are stored, applied, and replenished correctly
Integrate electronic and mechanical systems into complete assemblies
Conduct comprehensive testing to verify functionality and reliability
Troubleshoot and resolve issues identified during testing
Interpret specifications, assembly drawings, and work instructions
Maintain detailed records of assembly processes, test results, and maintenance activities
Update production documentation to reflect modifications and changes
Ensure all documentation is accurate and up to date
Perform routine maintenance on laboratory and production equipment
Troubleshoot and repair electronic systems and components as required
Manage inventory levels for electronic materials and supplies
Request, receive, and store materials as needed
Prepare component kits for reflow and hand-soldering processes
Adhere to safety procedures and industry standards
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and company policies
Maintain the highest quality standards across all activities
Implement quality control measures throughout assembly, testing, and maintenance processes
Conduct inspections of incoming and outgoing components and assemblies, documenting findings
Participate in peer reviews of completed assemblies and associated documentation
Manage workload effectively to meet project deadlines
Coordinate with project teams to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks
Keep up to date with developments in electronics technology and laboratory practices
Identify and implement improvements to processes, procedures, and equipment
Requirements
Higher National Certificate (HNC), National Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
3-5 years of hands-on experience working with electronic systems and components
Working knowledge of embedded systems, including microcontrollers and IoT devices
Experience in a laboratory or production environment conducting testing and evaluation of electronic systems
Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment for testing and fault finding
Experience assembling and integrating electronic and mechanical systems
Strong skills in harness assembly, mechanical assembly, and electronics assembly
Experience maintaining and repairing electronic systems and laboratory equipment
Ability to maintain detailed technical records and produce reports
Experience working in a cleanroom-rated environment is highly desirable
