The role of an Electromechanical Technician in the rail industry is multi-faceted. In this position, you will be responsible for the integration of mechanical, electrical, and software components. You will spend your days navigating complex electrical schematics and circuit diagrams to identify and resolve system failures before they impact production timelines. Because this project involves next-generation technology, you will also utilize laptops and specialized subsystem software to analyze communication between various train components (IPs and system-to-system communication).
Job Responsibility:
Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical and pneumatic system failures on locomotives
Read and interpret advanced mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and circuit diagrams without additional training
Use laptops and subsystem software to analyze software logic and correct system communication issues
Implement Field Modifications (FMIs) and meticulously record all work performed in the maintenance logs
Communicate technical details, progress reports, and repair recommendations to the site lead and technical team
Work safely at all times, adhering to standard industry procedures while using shop tools and heavy equipment
Perform hands-on repairs, adjustments, and part removals as required by the production schedule
Execute precise assembly installations on both diesel locomotives and passenger coaches
Assist with general production tasks including cleaning and site organization to ensure a safe workspace
Requirements:
Post-secondary education or technical diploma in electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as an Electromechanical Technician or similar role
Proven track record in hands-on electrical diagnostics and mechanical repairs
Strong commitment to safety protocols and professional conduct in an industrial setting
Advanced proficiency in electrical troubleshooting using multimeters and diagnostic tools
Strong mechanical aptitude with experience using a wide range of hand and power tools
Expert-level ability to navigate and apply electrical schematics to real-world hardware
Knowledge of software logic and system-to-system communication (IPs, networking)
Ability to work independently with minimal ramp-up time in a fast-paced environment
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to jump directly into issues with provided tools
Versatility to switch between delicate electrical work and heavy mechanical labor
Nice to have:
Experience in the rail industry, field service, or heavy equipment operations is a significant asset
What we offer:
Competitive pay rate of $25 - $35 per hour based on your depth of experience
Opportunity to work on "next-generation" rail technology and diesel locomotives
