As an Electricity Policy and Standards Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and updating technical standards, policies, and safety documentation that underpin the design, construction, and operation of electricity networks. You will work closely with internal teams, clients, and industry bodies to ensure compliance, innovation, and excellence in network operations.
Job Responsibility:
Develop and maintain technical standards for network design, construction, and inspection/maintenance activities
Review and update policies, technical bulletins, and safety alerts for electricity networks
Liaise with internal departments, clients, and contractors to ensure up-to-date procedures and compliance with legislation
Represent the company at industry groups (e.g. ENA, INA)
Support policies relating to low-carbon technologies (EV, PV, heat pumps, CHP)
Provide technical input on asset queries, EMF/noise complaints, and post-fault inspections
Review and approve network designs from ICPs, ensuring they meet technical, operational, and safety standards
Requirements:
Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
Knowledge of relevant legislation, electrical standards/specifications, and ENA recommendations
Strong technical knowledge of electricity distribution up to 33kV
Understanding of substation and network design principles
Experience working with health & safety legislation in the electrical industry
Proven experience within an electrical ICP or IDNO environment
Strong knowledge of relevant regulations, ENA (G81 standards) guidelines, and safety standards
Ability to liaise confidently with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies
Nice to have:
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards
IOSH Managing Safely certificate
Current CSCS card
Membership of a recognised engineering institution (e.g. IET)
Competency with design IT/CAD systems and Microsoft Office
Familiarity with protection and modelling software for electricity networks
