Motor City Electric Co. is seeking an experienced Electrical Protection & Controls Engineer to support the engineering, design, and implementation of protection and control systems for large industrial facilities and utility interconnection projects. This role will focus on reviewing interconnection requirements, developing protection and control philosophies, coordinating with Engineers of Record (EOR), and supporting the design, implementation, testing, and commissioning of protection systems.
Job Responsibility:
Create & review the protection schemes for substations, switchgear, transformers, feeders, generators, and interconnection points
Develop protection and control drawings for industrial and utility-interconnected facilities
Prepare and review relay logic/settings and associated calculations and coordination studies
Review utility interconnection & installation requirements and industry standards for code compliance
Coordinate power, protection & control automation requirements with utilities and project EORs
Support power system evaluations & relay coordination using ETAP and SKM Power Tools
Review equipment submittals and vendor protection designs
Provide engineering support during in-house protection & control panel builds
Support development and maintenance of company protection standards and engineering template
Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and review vendor test procedures
Assist with relay testing, system functional testing, commissioning and energization support
Help develop and maintain the Relay Testing Lab for on-the-bench testing and checkouts
Conduct site walks and field investigations as needed
Strong communication skills for utility coordination and multidisciplinary teams
Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering (Power Systems preferred)
2 – 4 years of experience in electrical power distribution, protection and control engineering
Experience with industrial power & P&C systems and utility interconnections is preferred
Previous experience working in CAD 2D or Revit 3D
Fundamental of Engineering and/or working towards P.E.
