The Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety (DFPES) is seeking an Electrical Plans Reviewer to evaluate building and electrical plans for projects statewide. This position works collaboratively with other reviewers to ensure electrical systems are designed to the currently adopted edition of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and applicable state requirements. The Electrical Plans Reviewer reviews plans and specifications for code compliance, identifies deficiencies, and coordinates with on-site inspectors to ensure approved plans are properly implemented in the field. This role supports consistent, safe, and effective electrical code compliance throughout the State.
Job Responsibility:
Evaluate building and electrical plans for projects statewide
Review plans and specifications for code compliance
Identify deficiencies
Coordinate with on-site inspectors to ensure approved plans are properly implemented in the field
Document all reviews, inquiries, and variances
Perform regulatory tasks within Agency programs
Provide education and enforce compliance
Communicate via phone or email with design professionals, owners, contractors, and inspectors
Train new employees in the plan review and inspection process
Support agency programs in various manners including written correspondence, presentations, public speaking, and maintaining databases
Maintain records and equipment and travel responsibly throughout the State
Serve as a witness during hearings as requested
Manage plan review priorities and meet the required review deadlines
Represent the agency to the public
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection Specialist II
OR 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection Specialist II
Must be a Wyoming-licensed Master Electrician or possess the qualifications necessary to obtain a Wyoming Master Electrician license
Must obtain a Wyoming Master Electrician license and International Code Council (ICC) Electrical Plans Examiner certification within one year of the date of hire
Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, statutes, rules, and regulations
Ability to read and interpret building and electrical plans
Strong time management and organizational skills
Effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills
Proficiency in accessing and utilizing internet-based information and a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Workspace
Ability to learn job specific programs including: ImageTrend, Bluebeam Revu
Nice to have:
Certification as a certified electrical plans examiner through the International Code Council (ICC) or equivalent certifications acceptable to The Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety (DFPES)
