Job Description:

The Electrical Engineering Senior Manager in the HV Development Engineering team leads and oversees engineering support for all development projects. This role manages all aspects of high-voltage electrical design for utility-scale wind, solar, energy storage, and other renewable technologies. Responsibilities include due diligence for IM&A, site feasibility, new technology evaluation, RFI support, proposal review, conceptual design, design validation, and CAPEX estimating. The position requires deep expertise in HV substations, generator lead lines, wind turbines, solar PV modules, batteries, inverters, transformers, DC/AC collection systems, switchgear, and HV/PV SCADA. The manager also champions environmental stewardship and a strong health and safety culture within the team and provides support to operating facilities as needed.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide preliminary internal engineering needed to support the development pipeline by creating conceptual design layouts and detailed single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and site layouts in AutoCAD for utility interconnection applications, electrical permits, and EPC RFP documents
  • Supervise project assignments for the assigned Electrical Engineering group and manage the work of third-party consultants
  • Manage internal and external consultants to support early-stage electrical studies for Development, Transmission Interconnection, and Execution Engineering teams
  • Maintain a library of standard drawings and calculations for all stages of project development and design
  • Analyze complex engineering issues and deliver timely, effective solutions across multiple projects
  • Lead value-engineering studies on alternative design approaches and continuously improve scopes, guidelines, specifications, standards, schedules, and budget templates
  • Own the development of new electrical engineering standards, guidelines, and specifications
  • Evaluate consultants to maintain qualified bidder lists and manage technical contract exhibits, including participation in contract negotiations
  • Develop and optimize electrical estimates for BOP/EPC and long-lead equipment by creating project layouts, take-offs, and HV/MV one-line diagrams
  • Ensure designs incorporate constructability and operability to maximize Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) award potential
  • Prepare and deliver all required technical documents—including one-line diagrams, interconnection studies or agreements, design criteria, and specifications—to support RFI and RFP releases, enabling CAPEX updates and potential contract awards
  • Lead project discussions with utilities and ISOs
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert, bridging Engineering and internal teams to support collaboration across departments
  • Lead all electrical engineering support for development projects, including CAPEX requests, early engineering, construction queries, and interconnection queue coordination until PPA investment approval
  • Oversee electrical design involvement across development phases, covering turbine and solar siting, collection system routing, substations, switchyards, civil design interfaces, and interconnection studies
  • Review Power Purchase Agreements and interconnection documents, coordinating with Execution Engineering to ensure compliance with NERC, FERC, and project standards
  • Perform additional duties as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 10+ years of design, engineering, and engineering management experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure
  • 3+ years of renewable energy experience
  • Experienced in managing third party consultants’ work and contracts
  • Ability to lead a team and to augment team members’ professional development
  • Expert knowledge of applicable industry standards and codes, including Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
  • Expert knowledge of applicable FERC regulation and NERC standards
  • Proficient knowledge of transmission systems, medium and high voltage substation electrical equipment, and underground distribution systems
  • Proficient knowledge of dynamics and stability modeling of Power Pools and the Interconnection Request process
  • Proficient knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, lightning protection, grounding grids, and relay protection schemes
  • Proficient knowledge of all applicable aspects of electrical engineering discipline, including expert knowledge of more than two subject matter areas
  • Financial and budgetary experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project and/or Primavera

Nice to have:

  • Strong Ability to demonstrate strategic vision and lead a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong level of initiative and ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational commitment and high attention to detail
  • Strong leadership and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide engineering support on multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to plan, schedule, track, and monitor project progress
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to foster and help create a collaborative working environment
  • Teambuilding skills
