We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Designer to join our client, a professional engineering consulting team in Waterloo, Ontario. This role is designed for a technical professional with four or more years of experience in the building services industry. Working within a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment, you will handle the technical design of electrical systems for a diverse portfolio, including high-rise residential, educational institutions, commercial "big box" stores, and long-term care facilities. This is an in-office position focused on delivering high-quality design documents from preliminary phases through to project completion.
Job Responsibility
Develop technical designs for power distribution, fire alarms, standby/life safety generators, and emergency systems under the guidance of senior staff
Produce and update drawings, site instructions, change notices, and addenda using AutoCAD and Revit
Perform essential design calculations, select relevant equipment, and utilize lighting design software for site photometric plans and fixture selection
Ensure electrical systems are seamlessly integrated with mechanical, architectural, and structural disciplines
Assist in resolving construction site issues, reviewing progress, and liaising with contractors and clients
Supervise and provide technical markups to junior staff members while representing the electrical discipline in design meetings
Requirements
Graduation from an accredited engineering program
Eligible for or currently holding a P.Eng., LEL, C.E.T., or C.Tech. designation
4+ years of electrical design experience within an engineering consulting firm
Demonstrated expertise in AutoCAD
Strong working knowledge of Ontario and Canadian standards, including OBC, OESC, NFPA, and IES
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to manage time effectively across multiple projects
Comfortable working out of the Hamilton, ON office 5 days a week
Nice to have
Experience with Revit and AGI32 (or similar lighting software)
