The Electrical Design Engineer is involved in all aspects of electrical design for solar photovoltaic, battery energy storage, and wind projects both distributed and utility scale generation. The role includes a wide variety of diverse assignments such as due diligence, sitings, feasibility studies, new technology evaluations, project proposal evaluations, conceptual designs, detailed designs, design reviews, performance estimates, and cost estimates. The position requires working on conceptual and detailed designs, procurement specifications, design reviews, review of submittals and RFIs during construction, and providing owner’s engineering support. The primary focus will be on medium and low voltage power distribution systems and electrical infrastructures such as modules, batteries, combiner boxes, inverters, transformers, collection systems, switchgears, and SCADA system. Design optimization for cost reduction and performance increase is also required.
Job Responsibility:
Support all stages of electrical design, including layout, collection systems, civil interfaces, interconnection studies, and agreements
Manage and review engineering deliverables, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to industry and EDPR standards
Prepare and interpret technical plans, specifications, and calculations
Lead or participate in project meetings, track RFIs/submittals, and ensure “As-Built” documentation accuracy
Maintain and update scopes of work, design guides, specifications, budgets, schedules, and lessons learned
Oversee engineering schedules, invoices, RFP processes, and Independent Engineering deliverables
Collaborate with Operations and Asset Management to integrate operational feedback into designs
Engage with utilities/ISOs and support FERC/NERC compliance activities
Provide input for optimizing Balance of Plant electrical CAPEX
Additional duties as required
Promote environmental stewardship and a health and safety-focused culture within the Engineering group
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required
Engineer in Training (EIT) is required
0-3 years of design and engineering experience is required
Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is preferred, in any state
Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles
Renewable Energy experience is preferred
Experience with equipment such as MV cables, inverters, PV modules, wind turbines, or BESS is preferred
Knowledge of medium voltage collection system, high-voltage substation equipment, underground distribution, power system dynamics, Interconnection Requests, lightning protection, grounding grids, and relevant codes (NEC, IEEE, NESC, ANSI)
Experience with power system and modeling software, such as ETAP, PSCAD, PSS(R)E, PVsyst, or equivalent, is preferred
Up to 15% travel
