To teach English to individuals and groups of junior and adult students following a syllabus and using materials appropriate to the students and course type.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare lessons using materials from the syllabus as directed but also adapting and supplementing as required to meet student needs
Teach both adult and junior classes, face-to-face and online
Deliver a range of lesson types, including but not limited to General English, Business English, exam preparation, English Plus courses
Use classroom technology to enhance students’ learning experience
Effectively manage students and their behaviour
Encourage student participation through a positive and enthusiastic attitude
Be observed for the purposes of professional development and quality control
Teach morning, afternoon and evening classes as well as some weekends
Provide online testing when required, occasionally outside normal working hours
Teach demonstration lessons for agents/potential students
Remain sensitive to the expectations of different nationalities whilst encouraging an open and questioning approach to learning
Provide academic support for students, as appropriate, through consultations and tutorials
Develop and maintain an encouraging classroom environment
Select, prepare and use teaching and learning materials appropriate for international students
Provide detailed oral and written feedback to students and other stakeholders
Carry out administrative and record-keeping tasks associated with teaching and assessment
Write a scheme of work, and mark assessments using marking criteria to specified deadlines
Populate the VLE with relevant materials for students to access
Attend weekly staff meetings
Keep an accurate record of student attendance and lateness
Complete a weekly scheme of work and record of work
Complete student reports at the end of their course
Complete and record progress test, and tutorials with students
Monitor and assess students’ ongoing progress
Complete assessments as part of the online testing
Conduct placement tests for new students and participate in student induction
Complete any other administrative tasks required for the smooth running of the school
Attend staff induction prior to the start of the contract
Complete online welfare and safeguarding training and any other non-teaching training required
Be a positive and professional role model for the students
Attend CPD sessions provided
Dress appropriately to the role at all times
Abide by the school systems and procedures
Contribute positively to the inclusive atmosphere of the school by working collaboratively
Requirements:
Eligibility to live and work in the UK
Enhanced DBS disclosure check or overseas equivalent
Recognised ELT qualification, e.g. Trinity CertTESOL or Cambridge CELTA
Undergraduate degree (*not a requirement for a candidate with a Level 7 qualification or working towards this qualification)
Demonstrable English language proficiency (CEFR C2, IELTS 8.5)
Demonstrable knowledge of effective language teaching and learning strategies
Experience of delivering English language lessons to groups of junior and adult students
Ability to use different strategies for effective classroom management and commitment to student-centred learning
Ability to develop and adapt materials to suit students’ needs
Willingness and ability to use a variety of teaching strategies and methods
Commitment to the welfare of students
Commitment to fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment
Willingness and ability to effectively teach learners of different ages
