Job Responsibility

Performs and maintains competency in electroencephalograms and portable EEGs
Prepares patient for and performs exams and procedures
Performs procedures according to the laboratory standards and implements alternative methods and/or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings
Recognizes patient or environmental artifact on the study
Devises and standardizes neurodiagnostic tests for clinical use
May perform ambulatory EEG monitoring, EEG monitoring during intracarotid Sodium Amytal procedures (WADAS), Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs), Evoke Potentials and other modalities of testing based on site specific needs
May assist physicians with inpatient and outpatient department clinics with Nerve Conduction Studies and EMGs as needed
May assist in the OR during implantation of Stereo EEG
Performs Transcranial Dopplers (TCD) based on site specific needs
Troubleshoots equipment problems and communicates with biomed, manufacturer tech support or supervisor

Job Responsibility

Perform diagnostic Electroencephalography, seizure monitoring, and evoked potential recordings of the brain or central nervous system per physician orders and established protocols.
Prepare patients, ensure a safe testing environment, execute studies, observe and document results, and monitor equipment, all under direct healthcare provider supervision.
Assess patient prior to performing procedure.
Ensure there is a written order prior to performing the procedure.
Obtain pertinent clinical information prior to the exam and reviews comparison and complimentary procedure or reports when available.
Provide pre and post procedural education and/or information to patients undergoing EEGs.
Assist physicians in performing EEG studies.
Calibrate all EEG and any support equipment for the exam.
Apply electrodes in predetermined positions on the patient's head to measure electrical patterns of the brain
Write descriptive reports as required.
