Job Description

We are seeking an Educational Welfare Officer (EWO) to promote regular school attendance and support children and families experiencing barriers to education. This is a full-time temporary role (35 hours per week) involving close work with schools, families and partner agencies.

Job Responsibility

  • Promote school attendance and engagement with pupils, families and communities
  • Support schools to develop attendance strategies and positive school cultures
  • Work directly with families to address attendance difficulties and re-engage children in education
  • Track and support children who have disengaged from education and assist with their return to school
  • Inspect school attendance records and ensure compliance with the Educational (Welfare) Act 2000
  • Liaise with schools, HSCL Coordinators, SCP staff and other child welfare agencies
  • Prepare reports and, where necessary, initiate legal proceedings under the Act

Requirements

  • QQI Level 8 (or higher) qualification (or equivalent recognised in Ireland) in Health, Education, Social Sciences, Psychology, Arts / Humanities, Youth or Community Work (or related discipline)
  • Minimum of 3 year’s paid front-line experience working with vulnerable or at-risk children and families, demonstrating direct engagement and impact
  • Full driving licence and access to transport (role involves travel)
