The Education Assistant will be required to assist the teachers carry out the educational mission of MESC and who make the educational experiences of children more rewarding. Education Assistants are under the direction of the Principals of the school they are assigned to and they are also required to report to the Assistant Principal and Teacher. As an employee in the organization, you will model the intent of the Maskwacis Declaration on Education and the core values of Wahkohtowin, Iyiniw Mamotohnehickikan, Nehiyaw Pimatisiwin, and Nehiyawewin.
Job Responsibility:
Work with a student or group of students to deliver activities that reinforce and advance the educational program
Support students who have complex needs. These may include medical, physical and/or learning needs and may require care throughout the day
e.g. support in feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene
Work directly with students as directed by the Teacher
Prepare required educational materials
Observe student behaviour and provide information to the Teacher
Review and prepare all documents, and reports as required by the Teacher
Assist the Teacher determine the course of action for students
Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions
Meet regularly with the Teacher to discuss student progress and learning needs
Assist in preparing materials, creating displays, and undertaking other supportive activities
Work within established structures, including classroom management structures, behavioral rules, and IPP and Behaviour Plan expectations
Clarify elements of the lesson for students who are having trouble
Supervise reinforcement activities
Implement specific techniques, strategies, and language as directed by the Teacher
Collect data for use in student evaluation
Mark objective tests for the Teacher to review
Report to Teachers on students’ strengths, achievements and needs
Report to Teachers on observed student behaviors and outcomes
May be required to supervise students
Keep up to date on school, district and relevant policies
Performs other duties assigned by the school principal
Requirements:
High school diploma required
ECD training
One (1) to two (2) years of experience working with children
Excellent writing skills, including proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation
Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion
Professional, responsive, and positive work attitude is essential
Knowledge computers, iPads, whiteboards and other school resource material
Strong interpersonal skills, must be able to talk to parents regarding their children
Strong verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the management team
