Job Description

M O'Brien Group is seeking an experienced Earthworks Manager to lead major bulk earthworks projects. The role will initially be based on a flagship scheme in Norwich before moving to nationwide project delivery. You will take full responsibility for operational delivery, ensuring projects are completed safely, on programme, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and manage large-scale earthworks operations (bulk excavation, cut & fill, stabilisation, remediation)
  • Oversee site teams, subcontractors and plant resources
  • Ensure HSEQ compliance and adherence to CDM regulations
  • Monitor programme, productivity, and cost performance
  • Liaise with clients, consultants and internal commercial teams
  • Provide regular reporting to senior management

Requirements

  • Proven track record delivering large earthworks projects
  • Strong background in civil engineering and bulk earthmoving
  • SMSTS qualification (essential)
  • Strong commercial awareness and leadership skills
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide
  • Degree/HND in Civil Engineering (desirable)

  • Providing engineering support and construction oversight during construction activities, including earthworks, ground improvement, deep/shallow foundations, tunnels and rockslide mitigation

  • Performing soil-structure interaction analysis for foundations, basements, tunnels, shafts and other below-grade infrastructure using 2D and 3D finite element modelling
