The Earthing Control Person (ECP) is responsible for the management and control of Impressed Voltage Drain Earthing (IVDE) systems on site, ensuring strict compliance with safety standards and project requirements. This role is vital for maintaining electrical safety during construction, testing, and maintenance activities, particularly on National Grid and other high-voltage projects. The ECP plans and coordinates IVDE activities, manages risk assessments related to impressed voltage, and maintains accurate documentation and registers for IVDE equipment. The role also involves equipment inspection, procurement, and storage, as well as verifying authorisations and delivering training to maintain competency. The ECP reports to the Authorising Manager and works closely with site teams to ensure safe working practices and regulatory compliance.
Job Responsibility:
Develop and present a four-week look-ahead programme at weekly site meetings
Ensure all risk assessments, method statements, permits, and inspection forms address Impressed Voltage risks and controls
Record and manage Impressed Voltage issues discussed in weekly SR163 meetings
Conduct risk assessments for work activities involving potential exposure to Impressed Voltage
Prepare and maintain IVDE schedules, registers, and supporting documentation with unique identification for all items
Issue, transfer, and cancel IVDE schedules, maintaining accurate site records
Oversee procurement, secure storage, and inspection of IVDEs, FEEs, and related equipment, implementing quarterly maintenance processes
Verify EAP authorisation and explain relevant documentation at the point of work
Maintain role authorisation through mandatory National Grid training and refresher courses every 12 months
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years continuous experience in Electrical Site Supervisory or Construction Manager roles, or as a Senior Authorised Person under Laing O’Rourke M&E Safety Rules or equivalent
Valid National Grid Competent Person Authorisation
IOSH Managing Safely or NG SR163 SIS M&E PC Representative Authorisation
Completed Impressed Voltage Drain Earthing (ECP/EAP) course (Kefax or equivalent)
Valid Authorised Person qualification
Valid First Aid certification
Assessed and appointed in writing by the Authorising Manager
