Job Description:

We are seeking an Engineering and Operations Systems Engineer. In this role, you will apply operational systems engineering to support the design, integration, and delivery of cable and interconnect solutions. You will help translate customer needs into clear requirements, support cable assembly design and documentation, coordinate interfaces across mechanical/electrical stakeholders, and ensure designs are verifiable and ready for build, test, and deployment. You'll track technical progress, support verification/validation planning and evidence collection, and escalate issues that require additional technical depth or program leadership.

Job Responsibility:

  • Support design and integration of cable/interconnect assemblies (connectors, pinouts, signal definitions, timing/voltage constraints, mass/fit, labeling)
  • Develop, document, and maintain component/subsystem requirements and interface definitions for cable-related hardware
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure designs are buildable, testable, and aligned to customer expectations
  • Define and document acceptance criteria and verification approaches
  • support V&V by collecting objective evidence for deliverables
  • Track technical risks, interfaces, and issues
  • develop mitigation and contingency plans with stakeholders
  • Participate in technical reviews and readiness activities
  • ensure required documentation is complete through the lifecycle
  • Support logistics/deployment planning and preparation of user or technician training materials as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or related technical field (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Experience with systems engineering practices: requirements, interfaces, risk management, and verification planning/documentation
  • Experience with supporting hardware design and integration in a cross-disciplinary environment (electrical/mechanical/manufacturing/test)
  • Experience with documenting technical information (requirements, interfaces, acceptance criteria, verification evidence)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Nice to have:

  • Experience with cable or harness design support (connectors, pin mapping, signal constraints, routing considerations, labeling)
  • Familiarity with acceptance testing, inspection, and evidence packages for hardware deliveries
  • Experience supporting configuration management and design reviews (requirements-to-design-to-verification traceability)
  • Experience developing deployment guidance, work instructions, or training materials for technicians/end users
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across teams and with customers

  • Design and Innovate: Create and design test equipment, subcomponents, cables, and other hardware to meet rigorous performance standards for Flight Test Vehicles
  • Integrate Systems: Conduct requirements discovery, negotiation, and verification for both mission objectives and missile compliance. Collaborate across various engineering domains (hardware, software, mechanical, aerospace, etc.) to integrate lower-level designs and subsystems into a cohesive system that functions through environments
  • Lead Technical Direction: Provide guidance to technologist and partners in the assembly, calibration, troubleshooting, and operation of test equipment, system components, and instrumentation of hardware
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve: Identify root causes of anomalies and failures during testing and development phases and develop and implement effective mitigation strategies. Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes and methodologies
  • Develop Automated Solutions: Design automated test solutions for weapon systems, including test fixtures, cables, electrical sensors, and instrumentation hardware. Support automated data processing of flight test data via the Sandia ground station
  • Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with SNL Systems Organizations other laboratories, design partners, sponsors, and stakeholders to ensure flight test plans remain on schedule
  • Test and Evaluate: Analyze test data and providing insights to inform design decisions and program direction. Support pre-flight assembly activities at Vandenberg Space Force Base. Identify and mitigate risks associated with system design and testing processes
