ALSO is seeking a Drive Unit Test Technician! You'll play a hands-on role in advancing next-generation rotating equipment and drive systems. In this fast-paced lab environment, you will perform detailed inspections, install and test drive units on dynamometers, and work closely with engineers to validate performance, reliability, and durability. You will help troubleshoot complex electromechanical challenges, build and modify test fixtures, and maintain a high level of organization and safety in the lab. Job Responsibility:
Perform both visual and functional evaluations of rotating equipment (motor/engine) and related components to identify defects, inconsistencies, and areas for improvement
Install drive units onto Dynamometers, conduct testing, and assess prototype performance to confirm design assumptions and highlight process improvement opportunities
Partner with test engineers to develop and execute test procedures, plans, and methodologies for verifying drive unit functionality, reliability and durability
Coordinate with cross-functional teams —design, reliability, and testing—to troubleshoot technical challenges and contribute to design refinement
Document test result, inspection reports, and technical observations clearly and thoroughly to support informed engineering decisions
Maintain a high standard of organization and safety in the lab, including inventory, tooling, and equipment maintenance
Design, fabricate, and modify test fixtures and equipment to support drive system testing and validation
Be open to travel to support testing operations in the Bay Area
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required
hands-on technical training or certification in automotive, electrical, or similar fields is a plus
Strong hands-on background in a comparable role, with a deep understanding of engineering concepts and applications
Skilled in mechanical assembly and fabrication, with proficiency in machine shop tools and expert use of hand/power tools
1000V HV awareness
Capable of independently disassembling and reassembling electromechanical assemblies
Comfortable using standard lab instruments such as multimeters, DAQ systems, and power supplies
Experience with wiring harness design and fabrication, including soldering, crimping, and following wiring diagrams
Strong understanding of physics and engineering fundamentals, with the ability to apply principles to solve complex problems
Excellent documentation and written communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., with frequent standing, walking, and bending in a fast-paced lab environment
Nice to have:
Exposure to LabVIEW, Python, or equivalent is a plus
