Job Description:

This is a pivotal full-time position for a dedicated DT Technician to join a specialised technical environment in Leeds. The successful candidate will act as the vital link between ambitious curriculum goals and practical classroom execution. This role involves managing a high-spec workshop, ensuring all machinery is primed for use, and providing direct technical support to students as they navigate complex engineering projects.

Job Responsibility:

  • Prepare and set up materials, tools, and equipment for all DT and Engineering lessons
  • Perform daily safety checks on all machinery and hand tools to ensure a secure environment
  • Provide at-the-bench technical assistance to students during practical sessions
  • Maintain and service specialist equipment, including lathes, milling machines, and saws
  • Manage the operation and maintenance of CAD/CAM machinery, such as 3D printers and laser cutters
  • Monitor and manage stock levels, including the ordering of consumables and specialised materials
  • Ensure all hazardous substances are stored and handled in strict accordance with COSHH regulations
  • Maintain an organised, clean, and efficient workshop and storage system
  • Assist teaching staff in the development of new project prototypes and demonstration models
  • Implement and uphold the school's Health and Safety policies to the highest standard

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working as a technician, ideally within an educational or training setting
  • Knowledge of COSHH and general risk assessment procedures
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with wood and metal-working machinery
  • Digital Literacy: Confidence in using CAD/CAM software and associated hardware
  • Safety Consciousness: A deep-rooted understanding of workshop health and safety protocols
  • Problem Solving: The ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical or technical issues
  • Organisation: Exceptional skills in managing inventories and physical workspaces
  • Communication: The ability to explain technical processes clearly to students and staff
