This is a pivotal full-time position for a dedicated DT Technician to join a specialised technical environment in Leeds. The successful candidate will act as the vital link between ambitious curriculum goals and practical classroom execution. This role involves managing a high-spec workshop, ensuring all machinery is primed for use, and providing direct technical support to students as they navigate complex engineering projects.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and set up materials, tools, and equipment for all DT and Engineering lessons
Perform daily safety checks on all machinery and hand tools to ensure a secure environment
Provide at-the-bench technical assistance to students during practical sessions
Maintain and service specialist equipment, including lathes, milling machines, and saws
Manage the operation and maintenance of CAD/CAM machinery, such as 3D printers and laser cutters
Monitor and manage stock levels, including the ordering of consumables and specialised materials
Ensure all hazardous substances are stored and handled in strict accordance with COSHH regulations
Maintain an organised, clean, and efficient workshop and storage system
Assist teaching staff in the development of new project prototypes and demonstration models
Implement and uphold the school's Health and Safety policies to the highest standard
Requirements:
Prior experience working as a technician, ideally within an educational or training setting
Knowledge of COSHH and general risk assessment procedures
Eligibility to work in the UK
An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with wood and metal-working machinery
Digital Literacy: Confidence in using CAD/CAM software and associated hardware
Safety Consciousness: A deep-rooted understanding of workshop health and safety protocols
Problem Solving: The ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical or technical issues
Organisation: Exceptional skills in managing inventories and physical workspaces
Communication: The ability to explain technical processes clearly to students and staff
