Associate's Degree (typically in Business)

Knowledge of the Driver License Information System

Job Responsibility

Provides service to and interacts with the general public in professional and courteous manner
Answers general questions pertaining to applications for various types of driver licenses and identification cards, questions pertaining to traffic laws, driver license, commercial driver license, and traffic laws, driver education, insurance requirements and organ donation
Receives, reviews and issues all types of licenses, permit, identification card, disabled placards and concealed firearms permit applications, revisions, and renewals
Determines applicants’ eligibility for licensing by making inquiries and properly interpreting responses received through the state and national computer information systems
Screens applicant's physical, mental and visual abilities to safely operate motor vehicles per state and federal law
Administers computer-assisted written and vision tests, or other tests to applicants
Schedules applicants for driving skills tests
Administers driving skills test examinations
Performs vehicle inspections prior to driving skills testing
Advises applicants of suspensions, cancellations and revocations, and advises how to reinstate their driving privileges
