Job Description:

The town of Abington is seeking a full-time Mechanic to join the department of Public Works (DPW). This AFSCME union position works under the general supervision of the DPW Director and Vehicle Maintenance Foreman and is responsible for the maintenance and repair of town-owned vehicles and equipment. Work is performed in a standard vehicle maintenance garage and in various indoor and outdoor environments, with seasonal and emergency-related fluctuations.

Job Responsibility:

  • General automotive and truck repair
  • Limited body work
  • Welding and metal fabrication
  • Hydraulic repairs
  • Diagnostics and maintenance of pumps, generators, lawn equipment, and small engines
  • Supports DPW operations as well as police and fire apparatus maintenance
  • Participation in an on-call rotation and availability during snow, ice, and other emergency or severe weather events is required

Requirements:

  • Five or more years of mechanical experience is preferred
  • A CDL and Hoisting License are preferred or must be obtained within one year
