A kind, patient, and compassionate attitude
Experience in a care or support role (palliative care experience is desirable but full training is provided)
Strong communication and emotional resilience, especially during sensitive situations
Understanding of person-centred and dignity-focused care
Ability to work calmly and independently
Flexibility to support individuals whose needs may change quickly
Willingness to work with families and healthcare professionals
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) – desirable
A full UK driving licence – Essential
Availability for weekend work

Job Responsibility

Personal and Intimate Care: Provide sensitive support with washing, dressing, continence care, repositioning, and comfort measures
Symptom & Medication Support: Follow palliative care plans, assist with safe medication prompts, and observe and report changes in symptoms to the relevant healthcare professionals
Comfort & Emotional Support: Offer reassurance, companionship, and a calming presence to individuals and their families
Dignity & Respect: Ensure every aspect of care is delivered with compassion, privacy, and respect for personal wishes, cultural beliefs, and family dynamics
End-of-Life Support: Assist in creating a peaceful, person-centred environment, supporting individuals in maintaining comfort and dignity in their final days
Nutrition & Hydration Support: Assist with safe food and drink preparation, or with comfort feeding as appropriate to the care plan
Home Environment: Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable home setting, ensuring equipment is used safely
Family Liaison: Work alongside families, offering guidance, support, and reassurance while respecting boundaries
Communication & Reporting: Document changes, follow care plans carefully, and communicate concerns promptly to the Service Manager and clinical teams
Professional Collaboration: Work with district nurses, GPs, and hospice teams to support coordinated care
