Full-time staff attorney position in Juneau to provide legal assistance to victims of domestic violence, funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant. The project prioritizes services to Alaska Native/American Indian victims and victims experiencing disabilities.
Job Responsibility:
Serve clients experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
Appear in state and tribal court civil proceedings involving family law, housing, consumer protection, public benefits, and health care
Help develop new alternative dispute resolution options appropriate for trauma survivors
Work as part of a three-person team including a legal advocate and counselor
Requirements:
Admitted to practice law in Alaska or admitted to practice in another state and eligible for an Alaska Bar Rule 43 waiver
Computer proficiency (Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Internet, e-mail and data entry)
Experience in working with individuals experiencing trauma, and physical and mental disabilities
Nice to have:
Background working in cross-cultural situations
Knowledge, appreciation, experience, and commitment to working with and for Alaska Native peoples and statewide Native organizations
