We are looking for an experienced Divisional/Plant Controller to provide financial leadership for a manufacturing operation in Michigan. This contract position with potential for a permanent opportunity will guide month-end activities, strengthen cost accounting practices, and improve the accuracy of financial reporting while partnering closely with plant and finance leadership. The ideal candidate brings a strong command of debits and credits, understands how balance sheet and income statement activity connects, and can translate operational results into clear financial insight.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the monthly close process for the plant, ensuring timely completion and accurate financial results
Review journal entries, account activity, and supporting schedules to confirm transactions are properly recorded
Oversee manufacturing cost accounting activities and evaluate cost data to support sound financial decision-making
Analyze plant profit and loss results and balance sheet accounts to identify inconsistencies, trends, and areas requiring correction
Partner with local operational and accounting staff to clarify accounting impacts and improve understanding of financial processes
Assess existing accounting workflows and establish stronger baseline controls, reporting practices, and account reconciliations
Examine shared service postings and local financial entries to verify they align with plant performance and reporting expectations
Support the interpretation of financial results for leadership by turning transactional detail into clear business explanations
Contribute to process improvement efforts, including financial review activities tied to current ERP and consolidation reporting tools
Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in a Plant Controller, Divisional Controller, or similar controllership role within a manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge of month-end close procedures, general ledger activity, and financial statement relationships
Hands-on expertise in manufacturing cost accounting and cost analysis
Ability to identify accounting errors at the transaction level and resolve issues involving debits, credits, and account classifications
Experience preparing, reviewing, and explaining financial reports for operational and finance leaders
Working knowledge of ERP and financial consolidation systems, preferably in a manufacturing setting
Strong communication skills with the ability to coach team members and translate accounting concepts into practical business insight
