We are seeking a leader to join our New York office as a Divisional Director — a client champion, team builder, and technical innovator. In this role, you’ll play a pivotal part in shaping Atelier Ten’s presence in the U.S. market, driving sustainable, high-performance design outcomes, and mentoring the next generation of environmental talent. You’ll be responsible for bringing in new work and clients, building trusted relationships, and leading pursuits that align with our mission. Beyond business development, you’ll guide projects from concept to completion, ensure technical excellence, and contribute to the strategic management of the office. Job Responsibility:
Drive business development efforts by identifying opportunities, leading pursuits, and applying work winning strategies to bring in new projects and clients
Build strong client relationships as a trusted advisor, ensuring client satisfaction and long-term partnerships
Serve as director-in-charge on projects, guiding technical direction, profitably managing scope and fees, resolving issues, and ensuring top quality deliverables
Collaborate with other directors on office management, staffing, financial planning, and business strategy to ensure the financial success of the New York office
Mentor, train, and develop staff by identifying skill gaps, formulating training goals, and implementing professional development plans
Supervise technical and non-technical staff, ensuring alignment with project and office goals
Provide leadership, inspiration, and guidance to project managers and staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and technical excellence
Represent Atelier Ten and contribute to thought leadership by speaking at industry events, publishing articles, and participating in professional forums to elevate our profile in the design community
Support the growth of our practices and service offerings by contributing technical expertise, developing materials, guiding staff within practice areas, and sharing knowledge across our local offices and international network
Engage in recruiting and retention activities by helping bring new talent into the firm, supporting performance management, and fostering an environment where current staff feel valued and motivated
Requirements:
15+ years of professional experience in architecture, engineering, environmental design, or a related field, with at least 7 years in a leadership and client-facing role
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture, engineering, building science, or a related discipline
Proven experience in client engagement, business development, and project leadership within architecture, engineering, or environmental design
Deep technical knowledge in sustainability and building systems, with a track record of delivering high-performance solutions
Excellent communication skills ranging from presenting to clients, speaking at events, and writing proposals
A strong industry presence, demonstrated through connections within the design and construction community and thought leadership via speaking, publishing, or teaching
Ability to maintain a regular leadership presence in the New York office
Willingness to travel to support client work, business development initiatives, and participation in industry events
Nice to have:
Advanced credentials (e.g., PE, LEED AP, WELL AP) are a plus
