The WEKU News Director takes a lead role in planning and assigning coverage for news stories; and covers and prepares news stories for on air broadcast and online. Supervises staff reporters, features reporters and student interns. The ND is part of the WEKU Leadership Team and plays a key role in defining and maintaining ethical, editorial, artistic, and technical standards for all news programming. The ND also assists the Director and General Manager with news programming decisions and news operations. This position is also responsible for managing news content distribution on the station website and other platforms.
Job Responsibility:

Part of the WEKU Leadership Team and plays a key role in defining and maintaining ethical, editorial, artistic, and technical standards for all news programming
Assists the Director and General Manager with news programming decisions and news operations
Responsible for managing news content distribution on the station website and other platforms
Directs the gathering and production of day to day news content on-air and online, edits news material and reporter submissions
Writes, produces and edits short-form broadcast and digital stories, long-form feature stories and interviews according to prescribed editorial style and format standards
Monitors performance of personnel and ensures staff comply with online photo, social media and other station policies
Compiles various reports and submits to Director & General Manager including quarterly FCC Issues and Programs, EKU voices and NPR stories
Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree is in Journalism, Communications or related field required
Graduate Degree is preferred
Five years of experience in news reporting/Journalism is required
Experience in public radio is preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
On-air hosting experience is preferred
Supervisory experience is preferred
Understanding of public radio/NPR sound and style preferred
