The Director, Water Stewardship & Community Partnerships leads Microsoft’s community-centered water strategy in datacenter regions, advancing the company’s Water Positive commitments through locally relevant, transparent, and trusted programs. This role designs and drives water stewardship, replenishment, and access initiatives that align datacenter growth with long-term community water resilience. The Director works closely with Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) Community Affairs and Sustainability teams, as well as Legal, Policy, and Communications partners, to ensure water programs reflect community priorities, support responsible infrastructure development, and reinforce Microsoft’s leadership in sustainable water stewardship.
Job Responsibility:
Lead the design and execution of water stewardship, replenishment, and access initiatives aligned with Microsoft’s Water Positive strategy and evolving Water 2.0 framework
Ensure water programs deliver tangible, locally relevant community outcomes in datacenter regions
Align water stewardship efforts with datacenter planning and community engagement strategies
Partner with CO+I datacenter community teams to integrate water stewardship into local engagement and infrastructure planning
Support engagement with utilities, water districts, municipalities, and regulators to align Microsoft’s water use with community resilience goals
Lead strategic partnerships with water-focused Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), utilities, academic institutions, and implementers to advance water outcomes
Leverage Microsoft technology, data, and AI capabilities to improve water efficiency, transparency, and impact
Oversee tracking, reporting, and communication of water impacts, replenishment volumes, and community benefits
Support internal reporting, disclosures, and community-facing communications related to water stewardship
Requirements:
Master's Degree AND 6+ years work experience in corporate social responsibility (CSR), philanthropies, corporate affairs, government affairs, business and international development, or related area
OR Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years work experience in corporate social responsibility (CSR), philanthropies, corporate affairs, government affairs, business and international development, or related area
OR equivalent experience
Master’s Degree in environmental policy, water resources, sustainability, or a related field
Experience working with utilities, watershed organizations, and community-based water programs
Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-region partnerships and program
