Job Description

PPRO is seeking an experienced commercial leader to join as Director, Strategic Payment Partnerships. Reporting directly to the SVP of Global Payment Partnerships, you will be based in São Paulo, working alongside team members across Brazil and Mexico. In this role, you will lead a team of five, responsible for developing commercial relationships with new payment methods, as well as maintaining and growing existing ones. The role is responsible for the team managing all of the Acquiring and Local Payment Method (LPM) relationships in the region in addition to building relationships directly with international schemes such as Visa and Mastercard. As a commercial problem solver, you possess deep expertise in the cards and local payments markets in the region. You will leverage PPRO’s reputation, volumes, clients, and investors to address challenges and build a unique payment network. Your responsibilities will include overseeing all payment partnerships in the LatAm region, driving commercial outcomes, and coaching and managing your team to achieve peak performance. Collaboration will be key as you work closely with global teams, including Product, Engineering, Sales and Account Management, Legal, and Compliance, to develop and implement a comprehensive, proactive payment partnership strategy for the region.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead two teams, one for developing new and growing existing payment partnerships including Local Payment Methods and Acquiring banks and Card Schemes and the second is responsible for the optimisation of Acquirer performance and Chargeback management (five team members in total)
  • Coach and develop team members, developing them individually and creating a strong team environment
  • Identify regional projects and commercial opportunities to set and raise the bar of Payment Networks in LatAm
  • Creating new revenue lines from developing new payment partnerships
  • Reduce and contain cost by measuring and negotiating with existing Payment Partnerships and ensure cost avoidance by maintaining compliance with local scheme and payment method rules
  • Drive conversion and authorisation levels by optimistic volume direction across multiple acquirers
  • Support the SVP, Global Payment Partnerships and senior leadership by providing relevant reports, data and insights to existing systems and processes
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with payment partners including networks, financial institutions and industry providers, including prioritisation, evaluation of new initiatives, and ongoing partner management
  • Understand PPRO’s competitive position in region and implement programs to further and improve payments products, services and strategic objectives
  • Research and analyse industry trends and opportunities for PPRO to further distinguish its position as it relates to its payments products and Go To Market plans
  • Identify payments regulatory change and ensure compliance to new requirements as a foundation for future customer propositions

Requirements

  • More than 10 years of proven experience in the Cards and Local Payments industry
  • Proven leadership experience with a track record of motivating and developing high-performing teams
  • Currently working in a similar position, familiar with the market conditions and regulatory requirements
  • Strong, demonstrable experience in negotiating complex commercial deals and the ability to coach a team
  • Must have experience navigating inside financial services companies, mainly payment providers, with a solid business development track record
  • Used to working in an international environment
  • Solid understanding of doing business in Brazil and other countries in Latin America
  • Fluent English and Spanish a must

Portuguese would be an advantage but not essential
