Job Description

The Director of Software Development will oversee multiple development teams focused on areas such as motion planning, real-time control, cloud integration, and user interfaces. This position requires a strategic thinker with hands-on technical depth and proven leadership experience in scaling software organizations within robotics or complex hardware-software environments.

Job Responsibility

  • Define and maintain software architecture for Mujin’s robotics platform, ensuring scalability and reliability across motion planning, real-time control, cloud integration, and user interfaces
  • Actively contribute to writing and reviewing production-level code in C++ and Python for critical components
  • Create and maintain detailed technical specifications and documentation for new features and system enhancements
  • Translate product requirements into actionable technical plans and lead execution from concept through deployment
  • Establish and enforce best practices for coding, testing, and documentation across all development teams
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Hardware Engineering, and Cloud teams to ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives
  • Mentor senior developers and managers in technical problem-solving, architectural decisions, and career development

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Development, or related field
  • 9+ years in software development, with at least 5+ years in leadership roles managing multiple teams
  • Proven experience designing and implementing software architecture for robotics, automation, or complex distributed systems
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Python, with hands-on experience writing production-level code
  • Ability to create technical specifications and lead execution from concept to deployment
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD, real-time systems, and quality assurance at scale
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, global environment and make data-driven decisions
