A new and exciting opportunity has emerged with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee (Brisbane 2032) for a Director of Venue Infrastructure. As a key senior leader for Brisbane 2032, you will spearhead the strategic delivery of infrastructure, overlay, and services across an unprecedented footprint: 35+ competition venues, up to 13 villages, the Main Media Centre, and numerous other non-competition venues.
Job Responsibility
Establish, lead, and manage the Venue Infrastructure Department, including sub-functions such as Venue Design and Delivery, Engineering Services, and Look and Signage, alongside a strong central services support team
Develop and oversee the implementation of the Venue Infrastructure strategy for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, embedding clear optimisation objectives relating to cost, program efficiency and resource utilisation
Lead the stakeholder management for venue infrastructure planning and delivery by fostering strong relationships with the Queensland State Government (including DSDIP, GIICA, the International Olympic Committee (IOC)/International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and venue owners/operators
Oversee integrated planning with key stakeholders to ensure alignment of deliverables, scope and key milestones, including a RACI matrix of responsibilities across key Games Delivery Partners to ensure clear agreement on roles and responsibilities
Ensure a coordinated program management approach for venues planning and delivery by integrating design, procurement, scheduling, contract management, and construction of overlay and technical services which are fully aligned across operational areas (i.e. technology, ceremonies, broadcast, logistics, security, sport, and transport)
Recruit, onboard, develop and engage a high performing, service focussed Venue Infrastructure team
Lead the full lifecycle of venue temporary overlay delivery including the design process and systems, procurement, scheduling and management, construction, readiness, and post-Games decommissioning
Work with Brisbane 2032 Venue Management and Village Management teams and other FAs to develop FA infrastructure requirements, temporary overlay delivery timelines, and optimised delivery solutions, ensuring Games stakeholder requirements are met and inclusivity across all temporary facilities and services
Ensure on time and on budget delivery. Actively drive cost control, forecasting accuracy and value optimisation across the venue infrastructure program
Working hand-in-hand with Venue Management and Village FAs, you will lead highly efficient transitions prior to, during, and after the Games
Requirements
Significant senior leadership experience in infrastructure, overlay and services planning, delivery and management, demonstrating successful delivery of complex, multi-site and large-scale programs (e.g. major projects, precincts, or infrastructure portfolios)
Experience in a similar major, multi-sport, multi-venue event role, ideally within Australia
Demonstrated experience working with all levels of government including statutory authorities, regulatory bodies, councils, planning departments, building regulators, health and safety and licensing agencies to obtain required development approvals, permits, and certifications
Strong successful leadership experience in establishing, building and managing large, diverse, multi-disciplinary, service focussed and high performing teams (salaried and contractors) in high-pressure, multi-stakeholder and changing environments
Tertiary qualified in architecture, engineering, or project management, with a robust understanding of Australian and international construction regulations, accessibility requirements, and best practices for delivering temporary overlay and permanent infrastructure
Proven capability to build collaborative working relationships, both internally and with external delivery partners, with experience in navigating and influencing complex stakeholder groups
Strong business and financial acumen, backed by proven communication, management, and contract negotiation skills. You excel at managing large venue budgets and long-term resourcing strategies while continuously identifying efficiencies, developing innovative ideas, and executing creative concepts within strict budgets and fixed timelines
