Job Description

The City Manager is seeking an experienced individual to perform responsible administrative and technical work associated with all municipal welfare activities. Individual would develop and recommend policies, rules and regulations for the department. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, exempt position. The functions of this position are governed by many laws, ordinances, rules, regulations and procedures. May need to be available outside normal business hours to deal with emergency or unusual situations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, sociology, social work or related degree
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in social services
  • At least two years of supervisory responsibilities
  • Valid motor vehicle operator license
  • Demonstrated ability in interviewing and performing simple counseling
  • Ability to deal effectively with clients, other departments, private and public organizations, elected and appointed officials, and the public
  • Thorough knowledge of city ordinances, and state and federal laws governing welfare programs
  • Knowledge of private and public resources available for clients
  • Demonstrated oral and written communications skills
  • Operational knowledge of computer hardware and software
  • Ability to plan organize and implement programs, direct the activities of other people, keep detailed and accurate records
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with department heads, employees, and the public and to deal with service problems courteously and tactfully
