Job Description

Carex is partnering with a leader in the Managed Service Provider industry to hire a Director of PMO. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, governance, and continuous improvement of the Project Management Office within a managed services and professional services environment. The Director of PMO will lead a team of Project Managers delivering complex client-facing IT initiatives across infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, networking, and managed services engagements. This role is ideal for a hands-on operational leader who combines strong people management capabilities with deep project delivery expertise. The Director of PMO will drive delivery consistency, portfolio visibility, operational accountability, and process maturity while partnering cross-functionally to ensure successful execution across a fast-paced services organization.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Project Managers responsible for client-facing and internal IT project delivery
  • Oversee a portfolio of concurrent infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, networking, and managed services projects
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, and aligned with customer expectations and contractual commitments
  • Drive PMO operational maturity through standardized methodologies, reporting, governance, and delivery processes
  • Assign projects and balance workloads based on business priorities, project complexity, and team capacity
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development support to Project Managers
  • Monitor project health, delivery timelines, resource utilization, and portfolio risks across engagements
  • Review project status reporting, escalations, and operational metrics to ensure visibility and consistency
  • Support resolution of complex project challenges requiring leadership involvement or cross-functional coordination
  • Improve onboarding workflows, delivery operations, project tracking, and PMO standards to increase efficiency and scalability
  • Partner closely with sales, account management, engineering, and service delivery teams to support successful project execution
  • Serve as a key liaison between leadership, technical teams, customers, and internal stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • PMP certification or equivalent required
  • Agile or Scrum experience preferred
  • 8+ years of experience managing IT and technology-related projects within MSP, professional services, or IT solutions provider environments
  • 3–5+ years of experience managing Project Managers and delivery teams
  • Proven experience overseeing multiple concurrent client-facing technology projects in fast-paced environments
  • Strong background delivering infrastructure, cloud, networking, cybersecurity, or managed services projects
  • Experience operating within structured PMO, governance, or delivery management environments
  • Strong leadership, organizational, stakeholder management, and communication skills
  • Ability to drive accountability, operational consistency, and continuous improvement across teams and processes
  • Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid project delivery methodologies
  • Experience with project management and reporting tools such as Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Jira, or similar platforms
