Job Description:

The town of Grafton is accepting applications for the full-time position of Director of Planning and Community Development. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of current and long-range plans and programs for land use and development.

Job Responsibility:

  • Administering the operation of the Planning Department and its staff
  • Providing staff support for the Planning Board, Affordable Housing Trust, and other relevant Committees
  • Reviewing development and land use applications
  • Creating, maintaining and recommending relevant policies, regulations, and bylaws
  • Ensuring the implementation of planning studies, reports, initiatives, particularly the Comprehensive Master Plan
  • Researching, applying for, and administering grants and alternative funding opportunities
  • Presenting information during public forums, conducting site visits, and coordinating the work of professional consultants
  • Serving as a liaison between relevant stakeholders and the town, and serves as the town’s representative with state and federal Officials in applicable sectors

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, political science, public administration, or a related field
  • Five to seven years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and experience
  • Knowledge of state and municipal regulations, bylaws, policies, programs, and operations
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems
  • Must be able to keep accurate records
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to deal with all clients with patience and tact
  • Able to work independently to ensure time-sensitive projects are completed
