The Director of Nursing is a key member of the Executive management team. The role holder will demonstrate strong leadership and collaborative skills engaging with colleagues across the hospital in the delivery of safe, high quality patient centred services. The development and promotion of a culture of person-centred care at all levels in the organisation to advance the implementation of patient centred goals into Blackrock Health Hermitage Clinic is a fundamental aspect of this role. The position requires a strategic and innovative approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the change leadership necessary to achieve organisational objectives.
Job Responsibility
Responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of all patient and patient related nursing services, with particular emphasis on quality care, positive patient experience, performance management and productivity
Be an effective member of the Executive team taking collective responsibility for the corporate governance of the Hospital
Promote a culture of person-centred care at all levels in the organisation ensuring the implementation of activities and inclusion and integration of patient centred goals into the Hermitage Clinic’s strategic plans
Lead on business continuity management including emergency planning
Effectively engage across all business and service delivery functions to ensure there are robust processes in place to agree and meet financial and activity targets for the current year and outline for the future years
Ensure the necessary resources are in place to deliver agreed strategies, plans and targets including recommending to the CEO any organisational changes that may be necessary
Lead on performance delivery and to embed a performance management culture across the Hospital
Oversee the development of effective information analysis to support strategic decision making
Lead on transformational change across boundaries to enable the effective delivery of strategy, through the delivery of specific management programmes that will enhance the services of the Hospital
Manage the budget portfolio linked to the specific functions within the remit of the role
Proactively engage clinicians in the evolution and development of clinical services to provide best patient outcomes
Provide management and leadership for reporting managers and teams to ensure an effective learning environment
Promote an environment that is conducive to the development of best practice, enhances staff retention and promotes good industrial/employee relations
Ensure all teams are effectively supported with annual reviews and the development of personal development plans
Ensure service delivery models meet best international practice, are commercially viable, efficient, and satisfactory to patients and service users
Promote the development of a culture that staff are accountable, responsible and have authority to practice and manage within their roles
Ensure compliance with all HR system and policy requirements across the various remitted functions
Collaborate with Executive colleagues on the development of succession planning and talent management strategies
Take personal responsibility for own professional development and keep up to date with evidence-based practice and research
Provide professional and personal development opportunities for all staff/teams working with the relevant Learning and Education specialists to develop an appropriate programme of learning and education based on a planned (individual, department and organisation) training needs assessment
Lead the development and ensure compliance with all relevant Hermitage Clinic guidelines, policies, procedures and relevant legislation and regulatory requirements across all services
Encourage a culture of safety, continuous review and evaluation of policies, guidelines and existing practices through regular audit programmes and review, engaging with the multidisciplinary team where required
Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement across the organisation involving teams in continuous improvement initiatives and encouraging innovation
Working with Nursing leads to set and monitor core objectives, standards and key performance indicators for the services and monitor performance against these standards through internal and (where applicable) external audit
Provide clinical nursing leadership in proactively addressing ethical and quality of service issues with multidisciplinary team members and hospital management
Requirements
Be registered in the general division of the Register of Nurses maintained by NMB
Educated to Masters Level in either Healthcare/Business
Have 5 years’ experience working in a Senior Management position in a similar environment
Extensive experience of leading successful change in a patient centred care delivery environment
Experience of delivering high levels of productivity and efficiency
Demonstrates an understanding of financial management and control
Extensive knowledge of organisational management and development
Demonstrate a track record of positive team engagement
