We are seeking a strategic Director of Human Resources with proven leadership experience in the education industry to join our organization. This contract-to-permanent role offers the chance to lead HR strategy, drive organizational development, and ensure full compliance in a dynamic education environment. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in educational workforce dynamics, union relations, educator talent acquisition/retention, and navigating the unique regulatory landscape of the education sector.
Job Responsibility:
Develop and execute comprehensive HR strategies that align with the organization’s mission, goals, and priorities in the education sector
Lead all aspects of employee relations, fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing work culture tailored to educators, administrators, and support staff
Design, implement, and manage competitive compensation and benefits programs to attract, retain, and motivate top talent in a competitive education talent market
Ensure full compliance with federal, state (California), and local employment laws, as well as education-specific regulations, including those related to credentialing, funding programs, and government contracts
Collaborate with state government agencies, education departments, and relevant programs to maintain adherence to standards and resolve any compliance matters
Oversee HR compliance, risk management, and policy development with a focus on education industry nuances
Provide strategic guidance and leadership to the HR team while serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership
Monitor HR metrics and workforce analytics to drive data-informed decisions and continuous improvement
Lead organizational development initiatives to enhance employee engagement, performance management, and professional development for education professionals
Act as a key liaison between the organization and state/local government entities, education boards, or regulatory bodies as needed
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree or HR certification preferred)
8+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 4+ years at the Director or VP level
Significant prior experience in the education industry (K-12 districts, charter schools, higher education institutions, or edtech organizations) is required
Deep knowledge of California employment law and education-specific regulations
Proven track record in compensation strategy, benefits administration, employee relations, and talent management within education settings
Experience navigating union environments or collective bargaining (preferred)
Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities
Experience with government contracts or publicly funded education programs is a strong plus
